Parking in Ortley Beach

Most parking in Ortley Beach consists of free, first-come public street spaces near the oceanfront. There is no large municipal beach garage, so visitors should select a beach entrance and search the surrounding blocks.

Where to Park for the Beach

Check the precise location before parking. A space several blocks north or south may fall within another municipality, where different meter, permit or time-limit rules apply.

Free Parking

A public curb space may be used without payment when no meter, permit requirement or other restriction is posted. Read signs at both ends of the block and inspect curb markings before leaving the vehicle.

Route 35 and Restricted Areas

• Do not park on a Route 35 shoulder unless signs and pavement markings clearly authorize it.
• Keep intersections, crosswalks, driveways, fire hydrants and emergency beach approaches clear.
• Observe temporary restrictions for roadwork, flooding and special events.
• Do not assume that parking rules from Lavallette or Seaside Heights continue into Ortley Beach.

Use marked accessible spaces with a valid placard or plate. Visitors who require a particular accessible route should contact Toms River Recreation before traveling to confirm the most suitable parking space and beach entrance.

Oversized and Overnight Vehicles

Arrange private parking through your hotel or rental before bringing an RV, camper, boat trailer or oversized vehicle. An unmetered curb space should not be assumed to permit overnight vehicle storage.

Best Arrival Strategy

On warm weekends, arrive before the late-morning beach rush and navigate directly to a selected oceanfront cross street. If that block is full, expand the search inland rather than stopping or circling on Route 35.
