Parking in Wildwood: What Visitors Should Know
Wildwood's regular paid season runs from May 16 through October 30; city meters are not charged from October 31 through May 15. The municipal code lists a base rate of 25 cents per 15 minutes, or $1 per hour, while allowing City Commission to revise rates and hours by resolution. The amount and enforcement hours displayed at the meter or in ParkMobile are therefore the controlling current information. The general maximum in a paid space is 12 hours unless a shorter sign applies.
Where to Park in Wildwood
Boardwalk, piers and beach
Metered curb spaces and numerous privately operated lots serve the Boardwalk approaches. A private lot can be convenient for a long beach or amusement visit, but its daily price, re-entry policy and closing time are set by the operator. Municipal permits and ParkMobile sessions do not cover private lots. At the curb, confirm the Wildwood zone and maximum before leaving the car.
Convention Center and downtown
Parking around the Convention Center can change for concerts, tournaments and festivals. Nearby city meters and private lots often fill before an event begins. Downtown blocks west of the Boardwalk may provide city-metered or free legal spaces, depending on the sign. A longer walk can simplify departure after a major event.
Meters and ParkMobile
Wildwood supports ParkMobile in designated city zones and also maintains meter payment under its municipal rules. Enter the exact zone and license plate shown at the space. Do not rely on a zone from a previous visit or an adjacent block. The city traffic and parking page is the starting point for current announcements, but the posted display controls where annual resolutions have changed the base code rate.
Free Parking Options
Legal unmetered curb spaces away from the central paid and Boardwalk areas are free. They are heavily used in summer and may carry loading, street-maintenance or other restrictions. From October 31 through May 15, city meters are free, but private lots may still charge and all no-parking signs remain enforceable.
Seasonal, Weekly and Residential Permits
Current code establishes several products. A transferable Class A permit is $400, with a $350-per-permit rate when ten or more are bought in one transaction. A nontransferable Class A permit is $300. A nontransferable Class B permit is $175 for its defined district, and a nontransferable block permit is $125 for one designated block. A seven-day transferable permit costs $100 and works at eligible city meters. Maximum-time rules continue to apply.
Properties in a metered area that have no driveway may qualify for one no-fee, same-block residential permit with proof of ownership. That is a property program, not a general visitor permit. Read the current city permit application for eligibility, vehicle documentation and purchase instructions. The current application contains a broad nontransferability note that conflicts with the codified designation of the $400 Class A and seven-day products as transferable; ask the City Clerk to confirm the rule before moving either permit between vehicles. No city permit authorizes a private lot.
Accessible Parking and EV Charging
Marked accessible spaces require the proper placard or plate, and the striped aisle must stay open. Follow the payment instruction shown at the occupied space and the current New Jersey disability-parking rule. Designated electric-vehicle charging spaces are reserved for vehicles while actively charging; they are not general EV parking after the session ends.
RVs, Trailers and Bus Parking
Wildwood prohibits vehicles longer than 22 feet and commercial vehicles over 10,000 pounds registered gross weight from streets, alleys and the public right-of-way, subject to limited operational exceptions. Boats and trailers under 22 feet may remain only for a limited period, generally no more than 72 hours. An RV or large van needs confirmed private parking, not several curb spaces.
Buses use the designated loading location at 3501 Atlantic Avenue, then obtain parking authorization for the Byrne Community Center at 401 West Youngs Avenue. Overnight bus parking is prohibited. Operators should contact the city before the trip for current fees, event conflicts and staging instructions.
Events and Busy-Weekend Strategy
For an all-day Boardwalk visit, compare the posted total at a private lot with the meter's rate and 12-hour maximum; the preferable choice depends on length of stay and re-entry needs. For a Convention Center event, arrive before doors open and consider a legal space several blocks west. Temporary event, parade and street-cleaning signs override payment and permits.
Alternatives to Driving
The Boardwalk and central attractions are easy to cover on foot after one parking transaction. Bicycles are useful within the street grid, subject to Boardwalk riding hours.
